For the first time in its five year history, The81stMinute Handyman Magazine Medal has been won by three players. North Queensland teammates Johnathan Thurston and Jason Taumalolo both finished on 30 votes along with Melbourne halfback Cooper Cronk.

It’s Thurston’s third consecutive win after 2014 (with Jarryd Hayne) and 2015.

Kiwi Shaun Johnson led after 24 rounds on 28 points but failed to claim a vote in the final two rounds.

Taumalolo is the first forward to win the award while this is also Cronk’s first win.
