The devil’s dance continues as Mitchell Pearce caught in viral dog act

Sydney Roosters halfback and skipper Mitchell Pearce faces the sack or at the very least heavy sanctions after a video went viral that could end his Australian football career.

On Wednesday night a video was released showing a drunken, semi-naked Pearce making unwanted sexual advances at a woman, urinating and violating the woman’s pet dog.

You couldn’t make this stuff up.

Pearce has serious issues and we all know this isn’t the first time Pearce has dragged the Roosters and rugby league through the shit.

The Roosters released a statement on Thursday morning saying they would be delving deeper into the matter which spells doom for the New South Wales State of Origin playmaker.

“The Club wishes to advise that Mitchell Pearce has been stood down from all training commitments until the Club concludes its internal investigation,” the statement read.

“The Club continues to work closely with the NRL Integrity Unit and will be making no further comment at this time.”

This could be the end for the premiership-winner who has pinned the Roosters and supremo Nick Politis in a horrible position – damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

But let’s all take a step back for a moment and have a good hard look at ourselves.

First things first. Pearce is not a role model and any parent allowing their children to shape their lives on a footballer isn’t doing their job as a mother or father. You can kick, run and tackle like Pearce – but don’t let your kid think it’s okay to mirror someone like Pearce away from the footy field. What Pearce has done here is disgusting and it shows a lack of respect for the Roosters, their fans and the general rugby league public.

It’s a cruel, vicious world out there and nobody knows that better than a footballer. This bloke is the captain of his club and probably should be sacked. In fact, some might argue he should be sacked for making the decision to drink in the first place knowing how he reacts to the stuff.

Rugby league doesn’t have an issue – society does.

Rugby league isn’t drunk and disrespectful – Australia is.

And we the public can’t play the victim here.

In one hand we cry foul with our halos firmly attached above our heads, pointing fingers when our footballers do wrong. In the other hand we have our thumbs on the video record button and our smart phones in the face of any footy star within a kilometre of beer.

What does this say about us?

But there is no disputing the facts – they’re there for all to see.

Our sports stars don’t get a pass just because they’re sports stars and so the devil’s dance continues.

“I saw four or five other men in that room. There was only one bloke trying to kiss a girl,” Mark Geyer said on Triple M’S Grill Team.

“There was only one bloke grabbing a dog from behind. There was only one bloke who’s captain of a rugby league club.

“Even in his drunken stupor, Pearce gave somewhat of a cry for help: ‘I just don’t care anymore’ he mumbled at some stage.

“Today he will be. Today should be the day the line is drawn in the sand for Mitchell Pearce’s rugby league career.

“The education is as strong as ever. Mobile phones are just like a loaded gun and they can cause as much damage, never more highlighted than in this case. In fact, Pearce was so far gone that he actually looked straight at the phone recording him several times.

“But of course he didn’t realise he was being taped, such was his state of inebriation. And therein, I’m afraid, lies the massive problem Pearce has.”

Pearce does have a massive problem.

Society has a massive problem.

But rest assured that we on this side of the fence, with our smart phones in hand, are ready to shoot.

Let the devil’s dance continue.
