Gould says Wests Tigers must move to Macarthur to guarantee future in the NRL

Penrith Panthers General Manager Phil Gould believes Wests Tigers must move their base and invest heavily in the Macarthur if they are to secure their future in the National Rugby League.

In a Twitter exchange on Thursday night with the81stminute.com’s Curtis Woodward, the man that came in and completely transformed Penrith agreed with all questions put to him.

The Tigers are currently based at Concord and play four games a year at Campbelltown Stadium.

Earlier this year a report suggested the club was set to move operations to Carnes Hill in Liverpool if funding became available.

Curtis: Mr. Gould – Would you as Wests GM, hypothetically, move the club to the South West permanently?
Gus: I would strongly consider servicing that growing area as well as we could .. Can’t deny roots though

Curtis: Fair but it’s easy to respect history. Doesn’t it make business sense to snap up area and invest for next 100 years?
Gus: Absolutely ..

GUS2

Curtis: Would WT not guarantee their place in the NRL forever if they moved in full-time?
Gus: I believe so yes

GUS3

@matchhoo: where is south west…just curious….
Gus: Campbelltown and surrounding suburbs .. Massive growth area

GUS4

Curtis: My final question. Will any WT boss have the balls to make the decision in our lifetime?
Gus: One hopes so
